A century-old school in the town an admiral's title named 一所百年小學，座落在以一位水師提督封號命名的小鎮
Our town carries the title of a man. Wang De-lu (1770–1842), born in the village then called Gouwei, rose to become a naval Supreme Commander — the highest-ranking official Taiwan produced under the Qing. When the court honoured him after death with the title “Grand Guardian of the Heir Apparent” (太子太保), his neighbours renamed their village in his honour: Taibao.
On that same ground, in 1900, this school opened its doors. We have taught the children of Taibao for more than a century — through empire, through war, through the founding of a republic. Today Taibao is the seat of the Chiayi County government and the cultural gateway of the south, home to the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum and the high-speed rail. We are the old school at the centre of a town that became a doorway.
我們的鎮名，來自一個人。王得祿（1770–1842）出生在當時叫「前溝尾」的村庄，後來官至水師提督——是清代官位最高的台灣人。朝廷在他身後追贈他「太子太保」的頭銜，鄉里為了紀念他，把村庄改名為「太保」。
就在這片土地上，民國前 12 年（1900），這所學校開學了。一百多年來，我們教著太保的孩子——走過帝國、走過戰爭、走過一個共和國的誕生。今天的太保是嘉義縣政府所在地、是南台灣的文化門戶，故宮南院與高鐵都在這裡。我們，是這座「成為一道門」的小鎮中心，那所最老的學校。
A healthy child learns better. Taibao keeps its children moving — from physical-fitness lessons that run all year to a baseball team that carries the school's name onto the field. We measure a good day not only by what was written down, but by how much was run, thrown, and caught.
健康的孩子學得更好。太保讓孩子動起來——從貫穿整年的體適能課程，到把校名帶上球場的棒球隊。我們衡量「好的一天」，不只看寫下了多少，也看跑了多少、丟了多少、接住了多少。
No two children learn at the same pace. Taibao pairs a traditional Chinese-music ensemble and hands-on science exploration with adaptive digital platforms — and even an AI-tools page — so that the quiet child and the restless child each find a door that opens for them.
沒有兩個孩子用同樣的速度學習。太保把傳統國樂團、動手做的科學探索，與適性數位平台（甚至一個 AI 工具專頁）並列在一起——讓安靜的孩子和坐不住的孩子，都能找到一扇為自己打開的門。
Wisdom begins with reading and reaches outward through language. Taibao builds a reading culture as its foundation, and is part of Taiwan's 2030 Bilingual Nation policy — sending its own teachers abroad to deepen their English so the next generation can read both their own world and the wider one.
智慧始於閱讀，藉由語言向外延伸。太保以書香閱讀為底，並參與台灣2030 雙語政策——把自己的老師送往海外精進英語，好讓下一代既讀得懂自己的世界，也讀得懂更大的那個。

A hundred-year school is not a museum. The walls are old; the children are new every September. Our task is to hand this long inheritance forward in a language the wider world can also hear.
Taibao's Chinese-music ensemble puts erhu, plucked strings, and percussion into the hands of children. It is one of the school's signature teams — a reminder that a town this historic teaches its heritage not only in books, but in the strings a ten-year-old learns to tune.
太保的國樂團，把二胡、彈撥與打擊樂器交到孩子手裡。它是學校的招牌團隊之一——提醒我們：一個這麼有歷史的小鎮，傳承不只寫在課本裡，也寫在一個十歲孩子學著調音的那幾根弦上。
Baseball is Taiwan's island game, and Taibao fields its own team. For the players, two languages already live on the diamond — the English of “safe,” “out,” and “home run” sits comfortably beside the Mandarin called from the dugout. Health, teamwork, and a little glory, all at once.
棒球是台灣的島嶼運動，太保有自己的球隊。對球員來說，球場上早就住著兩種語言——「safe」「out」「home run」的英文，和休息區喊出來的中文，並肩存在。健康、團隊、還有一點點榮耀，一次到齊。
Science exploration is one of Taibao's focus programmes — the kind of class where a question is allowed to lead somewhere messy before it is answered. Paired with adaptive learning platforms and a campus AI-tools page, it lets each child chase the question that is theirs.
科學探索是太保的重點課程之一——在這種課裡，一個問題被允許先走進一團混亂，然後才被回答。搭配適性學習平台與校園 AI 工具專頁，它讓每個孩子去追屬於自己的那個問題。
Taibao puts reading at the centre of the school day and is building outward into English through the national 2030 Bilingual policy — an English classroom, online platforms like COOL English, and teachers training abroad. The goal is simple: a child who reaches for a book in either language without being told to.
太保把閱讀放在校園日常的中心，並透過國家 2030 雙語政策向英語延伸——一間英語教室、COOL English 等線上平台、以及赴海外進修的老師。目標很簡單：一個不用被催，就會自己伸手拿起書的孩子——無論那本書是哪一種語言。
