Building Toward Bilingual, the Honest Way 用誠實的方式,一步步走向雙語

A hundred-year school does not flip a switch. It trains its teachers, opens a classroom, and begins. 百年老校不靠一個開關。它培訓老師、打開一間教室,然後開始。

What “bilingual” means at Taibao — today 「雙語」在太保,現在的意思

Bilingual education in Taiwan can mean many things — from one English-immersion class to a whole school taught in English. We want to be honest about where Taibao is on that road: we are building. Taibao is part of the Ministry of Education's 2030 Bilingual Nation policy, and our approach is to start with the people, not the posters.

That means sending our own subject and English teachers for overseas short-term training to deepen their English-medium teaching, running an English classroom on campus, and drawing on national platforms like COOL English and the resources of Chiayi County's English Education Resource Centre. We would rather grow a real bilingual capacity slowly than announce one quickly.

台灣的「雙語教育」可以指很多事——從一節英語沉浸式課程,到整所學校以英語授課。我們想誠實地說明太保在這條路上的位置:我們正在打造它。太保是教育部「2030 雙語政策」的一員,而我們的做法是——從「人」開始,不是從海報開始。

具體而言,就是把我們自己的領域教師與英語教師送往海外短期進修,精進他們以英語授課的能力;在校內經營一間英語教室;並善用 COOL English 等國家平台,以及嘉義縣英語教育資源中心的資源。我們寧願慢慢長出真實的雙語能量,也不要快快宣布一個。

Under the 2030 Bilingual policy, Taibao selects its own subject and English teachers for overseas short-term training — so the adults the children already trust are the ones who bring English into the room.

Platforms & County Resources 線上平台與縣級資源

COOL English and other national platforms, plus Chiayi County's English Education Resource Centre and its English-Day events — Taibao does not learn English alone; it learns it inside a county-wide network.

COOL English 等國家平台,加上嘉義縣英語教育資源中心與縣級英語日活動——太保不是一所學校孤單地學英語,而是在一張全縣的網絡裡學。

Specific grade-and-subject bilingual arrangements are set yearly by the school's curriculum committee and confirmed with the school.
各年級、各科目的雙語實施安排,依學校課程發展委員會逐年規劃為準,並以校方公告為依據。

Thirteen bilingual episodes by Sarah Thomas and Susan Rose: each of a school's four offices — academic affairs, student affairs, general affairs, and counselling — introducing themselves in two languages. Designed to be played over the morning intercom, watched in homeroom, or screened in any school that wants to start bringing English into daily campus life.

Why we share, instead of making our own 為什麼我們是「共用」,而不是各做各的

The two playlists above are not Taibao's. They belong to My Culture Connect (人師教育協會), a Taiwanese non-profit that has been placing English-speaking student teachers in schools and producing bilingual resources for over twenty years.

Many Taiwanese schools recreate the same bilingual video content from scratch — ten schools, ten slightly different roll-call videos, no one watching beyond their own campus. We chose to embed the same playlists every partner school uses, because:

上面兩個 playlist 並不是太保自己的,它們屬於人師教育協會(My Culture Connect)——一個在台灣經營超過二十年的非營利組織,長期為學校媒合英語實習老師,並製作雙語教學資源。

許多台灣學校會各自從零做一樣的雙語影片——十所學校做十支稍微不同的點名影片,但沒有人會看自己校外的版本。我們選擇「每所合作校都嵌同一份 playlist」,原因是:內容本來就是共通的——太保的雙語問候,和任何地方一樣有效;觀看數累積在同一個頻道,製作端才有動力繼續做新的;影片更新時,所有用它的學校自動拿到新版;而且這也讓我們的孩子知道——他們屬於一個比一所學校更大的雙語學習群體。

The bilingual campus that shares its resources is the bilingual campus that lasts. 願意共用資源的雙語校園,才是能走得久的雙語校園。
